CARD THREE
Stainless-Steel
stainless steel in buildings:
Steven Holl's Whitney Water Purification Facility
Walt Disney Concert Hall

Stainless steel does not corrode, rust or stain with water as ordinary steel does, but despite the name it is not fully stain-proof, most notably under low oxygen, high salinity, or poor circulation environments. Thus, building structures will not be fully reliable if it is used externally.  There are however different grades and surface finishes of stainless steel to suit the environment.
Stainless steel is used where both the properties of steel and resistance to corrosion are required such as: coils, sheets, plates, bars, wire, and tubing to be used in cookware, cutlery, household hardware, surgical instruments, major appliances, industrial equipment (for example, in sugar refineries) and as an automotive and aerospace structural alloy and construction material in large buildings.

Relationship between light and stainless steel is very interesting. Stainless Steel reflects light very well which illuminates the building without too much artificial light. The harshness and the masculinity of steel's original state is hidden and camouflaged when light is involved which creates a two-faced character such as dystopia and utopia.

CARD FOUR
Polyester fabric
Tentsile, the Portable Treehouse.
They are comprised of layered fabric and polyester fabric infill panels, with a insect mesh sandwiched in between to trap all invading pesks.

Polyester is a category of polymers which contain the ester functional group in their main chain. Although there are many polyesters, the term "polyester" as a specific material most commonly refers to polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Polyesters include naturally occurring chemicals, such as in the cutin of plant cuticles. Depending on the chemical structure, polyester can be a thermoplastic or thermoset; however, the most common polyesters are thermoplastics which means the fiber becomes pliable or moldable above a specific temperature, and returns to a solid state upon cooling.
Fabric balls knitted from polyester thread or yarn are used extensively in apparel and home furnishings, from shirts and pants to jackets and hats, bed sheets, blankets, upholstered furniture and computer mouse mats.

These two materials can be knitted together in a way that each side shows the materials above respectively. Therefore the knit will compose a double faced fabric which can be easily draped and molded around various objects. This research links back to our weaving and knitting activity for the internal enclosure walls. The exterior and the interior wall surfaces may depict contrasting images or may be the interior and the exterior can be harmonised and be weaved into each other. Due to their difference in material, their presentation of colours and texture will differ and therefore their field of aesthetic stretches far. The proportion division between the two materials is encouraged to be about 61% stainless steel and 39% polyester.

CARD FIVE
Glass  Luna
Luna is a unique cast glass building material that contains a phosphorescent chemical, absorbing light during the day and glowing for hours at night. Luna is manufactured using glass recycled from car windshields and is ideal for bar fronts, tops, feature walls, flooring applications, or any interior or exterior area.

The light fall and the glow from the glass reminds me of the secondlife object settings. Using the 'glow' and 'light' options, we realized that heavy, solidified and dull volumes becomes alive and elegant. This relationship between glass and light links very well with the relationship between steel and light. The idea of transformation and how two different impression can be conveyed from one object should be emphasized throughout our design process.
