Non flying vehicle

With the non-flying lantern we purchased, we were fascinated by the texture of the lantern after the wire rim was taken out from the inside of the lantern.

The texture of the sail drives back to the 'capture the movement' animation. The curls of the lantern and the colour of it carries a strong connectivity to the second water ripple animation. Furthermore, our trials from flying lanterns gave a rise to the conception of wind -speed,load,pressure- which leads to directionality. Wind influences the physicality (movement, change of form, direction) of the vehicle immensely. With strong wind, the vehicle will sway, shake and vibrate or otherwise it will stay calm and peaceful which parallels with the relationship between utopia and dystopia.

For the engine source, we focused on renewable energy and started off with the simplest idea possible.
We gathered one, two and three straws and created a push by pouring water into a cup with straws attached   at the bottom of the cup. Therefore, water functions as the petrol and therefore, a huge reduction in pollution is also possible. Realistically, water can be pumped up from the sea beforehand in the wharf  into a tank and if it runs out in an emergency, water can be provided by the sea.

The speed and power of the push increases as the volume of the water reduces at a faster rate; water escapes out from the cup faster.
Now, we have to process further and attach the power source onto the body of the boat. With our sail which will guide us to specific directions, we tried to swim the boat with the water power source.

component one
abstracting from the main part of the brush, we created a chair/storage furniture for the avatars. The internal space can be used for storage or for seats. With the chair on the front and coffee table at the back, this component achieves both sculptural and functional elements successfully.

flat surface volumised and simplified for 3D printing

developed the structure of the chair with more convenient functionality.
however due to printing limitation, we had to go back to the original idea

final
the sense of openness and freshness is well portrayed which is majorly influenced by the aesthetics created from the sail. The curvatures of the sail and the chair sit side by side well and they interweave into each other in an abstractive point of view.

Spatial human experience
Similar to the lantern, the boat has a constant soft but at some stages shaky and rough movement, depending on the motion of the water. However inside the boat there is a sense of movement and change as the sails are blown in and out by the wind.
