CARD NINE
Perspex
-Formally called a Poly(methyl methacrylate) / PMMA, is a transparent thermoplastic.
-It is also called as acrylic glass and therefore is an organic glass at room temperature.
-When heated up, it can be moulded into desired forms and shapes. First, the perspex can be heated up so the molecules connections become loose. Next, it can be bended and formed into a desired form with a supporter and be cooled down til room temperature.

CARD TEN
Polystyrene
-Made from the monomer styrene, a liquid petrochemical.
-It is a form of plastic.
-Its weakness in heat allows it to create curvatures easily.
-Low cost and easy to use, easy to get.
-it provides the ability to create a sculptural form which extends further from the laser cut panel volumes.

CARD ELEVEN
Projection screen-tensile structures.
For the Dome stairs, we thought it would be interesting and interactive to use the material of a projection screen where less human contact is made and shoot imagery or movie with sound in order to create a desired atmosphere and experience. Thus, an art-exhibition-like experience can be achieved. The imagery or the movie can be altered and changed into different settings creating a wide variety of experience which can be also actively used in events.
-White or grey screens or spaces is needed.
-Coating the stair structure with fabric will create a similar effect of a projection screen.

The floral stairs are now used as the main body of the hotel. Far more elegant and sinuos. The dome stairs are now situated right beneath the main body of the hotel.

Dystopian stairs

Since our first stairs had a symmetrical shape with flowing fluid curves, for our dystopian stairs we wanted it to be as contrasting from the utopian stairs as possible. With these stairs the shape is spontaneous as well as the movement of the climber. It would take a lot of effort and determination to climb these stairs as they would produce an arduous task. You would find yourself jumping, clambering and using both your hands and feet to complete the task. You would be less engrossed in your surroundings but rather interact more with the stairs and the physical experience of climbing them.

Since on its own the stairs didn't look as dystopian, a mesh wall was added on the side for both structural reasons and aesthetic ones. It gives a more foreboding and gloomy feel to the stairs, reflecting the experience.

Utopian ground stairs

The form of this stair is derived from a raindrop-like curve repeated and rotated from a curve embracing the air. This action creates a floral form which reflects the idea of lightness and freedom. The idea behind the stair was inspired from the shells that we saw and used in our Waiheke trip. The amount of shells which brush the sand of the beach created character for the beach. Thus, a sense of regionalism is introduced to the hotel which adapt its region's beauty and origin.

Utopian underground stairs

From the interior the structure looks very fragmented and disorderly from certain angles, and yet from others it looks very planned and decisive. This links to our idea of perception and how our perception of the same idea can be so different depending on the experiences that accompany us throughout our lives.

From above, but still inside the structure, the curves are more flowing and the structure more uniform. You can also clearly see the shape of the stairs, spiraling up, but also functioning as the roof or ceiling of the overall structure.

These stairs start from the bottom and as you climb it, without realizing you are actually climbing on top of the structure, you also glimpse the continually changing interior.

Looking from below.
Since the overall structure is really huge, it will not only act as stairs that lead to the top for a fascinating view, but the interior can also be used as different spaces for the hotel.
